Sarah Newton encourages year round energy efficiency

Spring may be in the air but Truro and Falmouth MP, Sarah Newton has been encouraging local residents to consider year round energy efficiency with a visit last week (Friday 20th April) to see cavity wall insulation installed by Redruth-based energy saving business, Mark Group.

Sending home the message that having cavity and loft insulation installed are still two of the easiest and most cost-efficient ways of reducing energy bills, cutting carbon dioxide emissions and improving the comfort of a home, Sarah Newton MP visited Truro residents Mr and Mrs Williams to witness cavity wall insulation being installed.

Mr and Mrs Williams live in a modern detached, four bedroom home off Tregollis Road and like many others, were given a free insulation offer by Cornwall Council. So, in a bid to reduce their energy bills next winter and to enjoy a more comfortably living environment all year round, a specialist team from Mark Group was booked to install the insulation at their home.

Mrs Williams said: “Cavity wall insulation only takes a few hours to install and I think even if it wasn’t free of charge for us, it would only cost about £150 - I think you’d make those savings back over about 12 months on your energy bills. Our house is fairly new but wasn’t built with cavity wall insulation in place and you do feel the chills over the colder months. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing the difference it will make.”

Millions of homes across the UK could still benefit from having the recommended levels of cavity wall and loft insulation installed, something which Sarah Newton MP is keen to communicate to homeowners. She added: “Having cavity wall and loft insulation installed is such a simply step towards a more energy efficient home and thanks to funding programmes, it is available at heavily reduced prices and in some cases, completely free of charge. That funding is so important and I encourage homeowners to pick up the phone to their utility provider, or to installers like Mark Group, to see if they could benefit.”

Mark Group is a world leader in energy saving solutions and has a local base at Carn Brea Business Park in Redruth. Operating from over 30 distribution centres worldwide and employing approximately 2,500 personnel, the company installs energy saving and energy generating measures into around 7,000 homes, schools and businesses every week.
