MP for Truro and Falmouth Sarah Newton has visited Glynn House Alternative Provision Academy (APA) in Truro, part of Acorn Academy Cornwall, a Multi-Academy Trust.
Sarah Newton MP’s visit to the Ofsted Good rated school saw her receive a tour of the school and meet with staff and pupils. Glynn House APA is a mainstream education provision which offers intervention placements to children who have been, or are, at risk of permanent exclusion for behavioural reasons.
Earlier this year, the school was reported by Ofsted to be rapidly improving in all areas, with students achieving GCSE passes and all leavers well prepared for the future, successfully moving on to college placements or employment.
Ms Newton said: “I was delighted to visit Glynn House APA in order to hear first-hand about the excellent work taking place here to improve positive outcomes for pupils. Staff and pupils are working extremely hard to ensure that everyone is given every opportunity to succeed, improve their behaviour and succeed in the long term.”
Glynn House APA is part of Acorn Academy Cornwall, which is sponsored by Acorn Care and Education. The Multi-Academy Trust was formed in June 2013 when seven Pupil Referral Units, which were originally managed by Cornwall Council, converted to Academy status. Since formation, Acorn’s MAT has improved Ofsted ratings across the group to either Ofsted Outstanding or Good.
Rob Gasson, CEO of Acorn Academy Cornwall, said: “Sarah Newton MP’s visit to Glynn House APA is testament to the excellent work being undertaken by all our leadership teams and our pupils. Aiming to reach Ofsted Outstanding, we work closely with secondary schools across the county to ensure the educational needs of the most vulnerable young people are being met and that an ethos of respect is being promoted.
"Glynn House has a successful track record of re-engaging pupils in education through delivering a varied and interesting curriculum which meets individual pupils’ needs. Acorn Academy Cornwall offers high quality support to these pupils so that they can integrate back into mainstream or special needs schools, the world of work or further education. Our beliefs and values are about equipping children appropriately so that they can have access to better outcomes in education and in life.”
Acorn Care and Education is the UK’s leading independent provider of specialist education, foster care and residential care for vulnerable and hard to reach children.
